Professional Background
I am an Alaska State licensed acupuncturist with extensive training and experience in China and the US. I hold two national certifications from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). One certification is in Acupuncture and the other in Chinese Herbology.
I was born and raised in China where the combined use of both Chinese and Western medicine is the norm. Chinese hospitals integrate both Chinese and Western medicine, and both types of doctors are trained to collaborate in treating and advising patients.
I earned a degree in Western Medicine from Beijing Medical College in 1983, the leading school of Western Medicine in China. The American Medical Association recognizes my medical degree as the equivalent of an American medical degree.
In medical school I specialized in dermatology and practiced as a Western dermatologist from 1983 to 1987 at Hepingli Hospital in Beijing. This experience enhanced my appreciation of the combined use of Western and Chinese Medicine before coming to the United States.
In Alaska I decided to concentrate on Chinese medicine. I had found through experience that Chinese medicine had not only a wide range of tools for dealing with skin problems but also effective uses for most other conditions. I met American requirements by completing additional training at the Beijing College of Chinese Medicine and the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NIAOM). I received my Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine in 1993, established East Care Acupuncture Clinic in 1994 and began my practice in Alaska.
I take seriously the challenge of helping my patients solve their health problems. I welcome the most difficult challenges.
I maintain and improve my skills in a variety of ways. I follow professional journals in both Chinese and English to keep abreast of recent developments and to deepen my understanding of traditional methods and treatments. The experience of seeing patients here in Juneau for 19 years has also improved my effectiveness.
I attend professional seminars and conferences and keep in touch with colleagues (Western medical doctors, acupuncturists, herbologists) in both China and the US. Occasionally I return to China for specialized training in herbal pharmacies and hospitals.
